Basics: SIM card and SD card

SIM card

The SIM card is a chip card that you need to insert into your phone. Only then can you make calls with your mobile phone. You receive the card, along with the corresponding PIN and PUK codes, from your network provider when you purchase a mobile phone contract.
The SIM card informs your mobile phone about which network operator you are using and which tariff.

There are three sizes of SIM cards:
Mini SIM, Micro SIM and Nano SIM.
If your SIM card is a different size, you can exchange it with your network operator or obtain an adapter from a specialist retailer.

SD card (storage expansion)

An SD card is a chip card that serves as storage expansion for your smartphone. With it, you can, for example, store more photos and install more apps. You can buy these cards at electronics retailers.
